Low-Cost Safe Device to Lower High Blood Pressure

Acutend is a non-invasive neuro-stimulation device derived from established Acupuncture principles. Used once-daily for 5mns by simple skin contact, Acutend significantly lowers high blood pressure (3x efficiency of standard medication). Acutend is a proven, easy-to-use patented device that is safe and portable and can save billions of patients wordwide. Most importantly, Acutend is non-invasive, has no medical side effects (unlike standard medication) and it offers high compliance as it doesn't have to be used everyday for sustained benefits. Acutend can be manufactured at low cost and be used stand-alone or in conjunction with drugs for higher HBP reduction.

Antibiotic Rotation

Evolutionary pressure drives bacteria to quickly become immune to antibiotics. If the antibiotic is not present, immunity is eventually lost. If an entire class of antibiotic, e.g. penicillins, was not used for, say 20 years, they could be re-introduced starting with the first generation versions and scaling up to later versions as bacteria regain resistance. When re-introduced, another class of antibiotic would be removed, and so on until all classes had been in rotation. This could be continued indefinitely, thus getting new use from older cheap medications and decreasing the need to develop ever more powerful and expensive new medications.

app for computer using MRI device scan data

MRI uses density to create 3d images where tissues are easily recognizable by the trained eye. Someone has yet to create software that uses MRI data to isolate the ~232 different cell types and ~78 separate organs by density. I would like to see MRI R&D; communities create some sort of 3D CAD model that color-codes both healthy and non-healthy tissues and organs for physicians to study. I have linked to Prof. Laurie Hall's 1998 lecture on the technology I am referring to that needs the "killer app" to go with upcoming HD MRI equipment.

Non-Wearable Fall Protector

Falls are frequent cause of injuries and broken bones in the elderly. Development of reliable and safe fall-protection systems can help people stay healthy and live longer. The main reason of prior failures is that fall-protection techniques required people to wear either bulky padded garments, or complex inflatable garments. Instead, external sensors of the proposed system will monitor people in their environment and cause external inflator units activate protective air bags. Inflators will be positioned either around the periphery of Rumba-like robots, along walls, or even under carpets. Fall sensors will be based on recently developed 3D imaging cameras.

Bioactive NO meter

NO (Nitric Oxide) is a radical gas and one of most important signaling molecules in the human body. Everything one does during ones life e.g., nutrition, physical activities, relaxation, entertainment, studies etc, is affecting NO availability. Thus NO measure reflects what is good or bad for us and what activities to adjust in order to achieve balance, health and longevity. An NO meter device (hand meter), which can measure bioactive NO levels through breath or blood vessel dilation, will enable the user to design wisely the quality of his life.

Diabetes Tribe: The self-responsible management team

Diabetics online help each other with daily challenges already. But what if they had incentives to work as a team to keep their collective health "score" strong? An online game or community would help people help themselves in an entertaining way. It could also help people train each other in solving key diabetic living problems -- or using technologies like the pump. As I envision it, the group would only "level up" if average scores were improving. Community leaders who contributed the most to others would get higher individual scores. The group would also include "guides" with clinical training.

Carbon Chemistry for Life

Everyone, particularly the obese, would benefit by reducing carbon from simple sugars, like High Fructose Corn Syrup and table sugar, with Mannoheptulose, the 7-carbon sugar in Avocados, and C3H8O3 glycerol, found in sweet wine and used for making soap and bio-diesel. Specifically, 5% of calories from Mannoheptulose and 35% from Glycerin. Obese people could also use the GI dynamics Endo Barrier to lose weight and increase health. The device is in use in Europe and helps with weight and blood sugar problems. This diet would also reduce protein intake for those over 60 to 45-60 grams of protein per day.

Un-subsidizing Tobacco by Requiring Insurance

30% of adult health care costs worldwide will soon go towards tobacco-caused diseases because of PAST tobacco use. A little regulation goes a long way: 1) To purchase tobacco, one must have "Smoking Insurance", just as skydivers need "diving insurance" before jumping out of a plane. Smoking insurance will be a rider providing, say $100,000, to cover ONLY tobacco-related health costs, like 99% of any emphysema treatments, 30% of stroke, etc. 2) sharing tobacco - like Vicodin - will not be allowed. Thus, the smoker (not the state) prepays for and is forced to confront the health-related costs of smoking!

Condom for Africa

In Africa, many believe in the traditional power of juju amulets (bracelets, often made of elephant hair), to protect them from HIV / AIDS. There can also be a low estimation of the effectiveness of condoms. A condom developed in consultation with traditional healers could incorporate features of the amulet, such as a spell & a sliver of elephant hair (or alternative?) molded into the base ring. Such a culturally adapted product could prove more effective.

Treatment of Neurological Diseases with Electromagnetic Controlled Neuronal Firing.

We are in the phase of reverse engineering the brain's wiring and we will soon be able to treat neurological diseases with specific neuronal network control. Despite the progress of Deep Brain Stimulation and Optogenetics we need a non invasive method of controlling neurons. I propose the creation of an engineered membrane protein that will respond to electromagnetic waves and will stimulate or inhibit neurons. This protein will be delivered with genetic vectors to the brain. We will able to treat Parkinson's, epilepsy and other neurological disorders with this minimal invasive method without the need of drugs or surgery.
